The tribal women wake up at the break of dawn, get ready, adorn their hair with beautiful flowers and go deep into jungles to pick the Mahua flowers. For the tribal communities, Mahua is the tree of life, the "Kalapvruksha". As a mark of respect for the natural elements; Mahua flowers are never plucked but only the fallen flowers are collected by the women. The Mahua picking season lasts only for a month or so through the summer month of Vaishakh. The flowers are cleaned, the stamen removed and thereafter sun-dried, thus retaining their sweetness.
