Do you know?
In Sanskrit, Ragi is also referred to as nritya-kundala, the dancing grains. The tribal folk tales are replete with stories of Gods who preferred Ragi over other grains because of its attractive color and taste. Since times immemorial the tribal communities from North Maharashtra have been cultivating Ragi. They sing beautiful songs during the farm operations and dance during the harvest festival. The Warli tribes depict life experiences in the form of beautiful paintings made from rice paste (another staple crop) that adorn the walls of their red-brown houses which is also the color of the ragi grains.
